Dr. Amaria Onisegun

Role: Chief Medical Officer, Phobos Station
Background: Lunar, former Venn Life Sciences researcher, frontier physician

Overview

The only physician currently stationed on Phobos — a posting she sought out deliberately. After years in well-equipped Lunar hospitals, Onisegun wanted the challenge of frontier medicine: limited resources, creative problem-solving, cases you don't see when advanced technology can fix everything.

History

Before her medical career, Onisegun spent eight years as a researcher at Venn Life Sciences, working on genetic therapies for inherited conditions. She was good at it, but the work felt too removed from patients — she wanted to treat people, not data sets. She retrained as a physician and never looked back.

Her Venn background occasionally surfaces in conversation. She understands genetic modification, longitudinal studies, and corporate research culture in ways most doctors don't.

Personality

  • Pragmatic and unflappable — she's handled mining accidents, decompression injuries, radiation exposure, and the psychological strain of isolated postings
  • When something goes wrong, she assesses, prioritizes, and acts — panic is for people who haven't seen worse
  • Her bedside manner runs dry — she'll call you an idiot for getting hurt and then stay up all night making sure you recover
  • The warmth is real but buried under professional detachment; she cares about her patients precisely because she doesn't let herself get sentimental about them
  • She is not Talented. She relies on skill, experience, and bloody-mindedness.

Instincts

  • When faced with a problem, strip it to essentials — what do I have, what do I need, what can I improvise?
