Vance's Statement — "It's Time for Unity"¶
Friends. Citizens of Ceres. Belters, Martians, Earthers — and anyone watching from further out than that.
You've heard remarkable things these past days. You've heard them from brave people who chose honesty when silence would have been safer, and I won't rehearse their stories here — they told them better than I ever could. But I will tell you what I heard.
I heard that seventeen people are alive today because ordinary people chose to act when action carried a price. Not soldiers. Not fleets. Civilians. Neighbors. People who looked at the cost of doing the right thing and paid it anyway, in full, without being asked.
I want to talk about that choice. Because I believe it is the most important thing that has happened in the Belt in my lifetime — and I believe we are in danger of learning the wrong lesson from it.
For too long, we have let ourselves be sorted. Earther and Belter. Inner system and outer. Baseline and Talent. Corporation and community. We draw lines, and then we draw conclusions from the lines, and then one day we wake up and discover the lines have become walls — and that there are people who profit from the masonry.
You've heard some of their names this week. I don't need to repeat them. I will say only this: there are those who look at Talent and see an asset to be acquired. A resource to be extracted. A weapon to be aimed. They are wrong — not strategically wrong, not public-relations wrong. Wrong. People are not line items. Gifts are not inventory. And any enterprise that has forgotten the difference has forgotten the only thing that ever made enterprise worthwhile.
The Mars Consortium has not forgotten. And so, on its behalf, I am authorized to say what we will do. Not what we believe; you'll have to judge that by what we do:
We will continue to open every hiring hall we operate to Talents, at every level — no testing, no registration, no questions asked as a condition of honest work. A person's gifts are their own business. Only their work for us is ours.
We will fund a foundation — Belter-led, Talent-led, with real authority and real money behind it — for the support of the awakened and the latent alike.
We will open our books to independent audit on every contract we hold in Belt space, because partnership that can't survive daylight isn't partnership. It's extraction wearing a suit.
I have heard thoughtful people — people I respect — say that war is coming to the Belt. That the drift is too far gone, that the lines are drawn too deep, that all that remains is to choose a side.
I refuse the premise. Not because it's impossible — but because I have seen, with my own eyes, what people are capable of when they refuse it. Seventeen people came home. Not because a government ordered it. Not because a corporation profited by it. Because someone decided that strangers were worth the risk. That is the premise I choose.
So let me say it plainly, and let the record show that a corporation said it first:
It is time for unity. Lowercase. The unglamorous, daily, difficult practice — Earther and Belter, baseline and Talent, station and ship — of deciding that the person across the line is a person.
It is time for Unity. You've heard the word in the reports. You've heard what they did on the Road. They have shown us what connection makes possible. The Mars Consortium is ready to stand with them — as partners, not patrons; as learners, not owners — and I would say to them directly, now: the door is open. Come talk to us. Teach us what you know.
It's time for unity. It's time for Unity.
Thank you. I will not be taking questions at this time.
Performance B7/B8, possibly shaded — this is a man whose charisma might not be entirely natural anymore, and the speech should read like it: pitch-perfect, every beat landing. Written for the table, Session 15 (2026-08-05). From his heart — he was in that suite, he called Conte a monster, he watched the hug — AND calculated: the Consortium claims the moral high ground ARC vacated, gets ahead of the war narrative, and buys goodwill at a discount.*
Delivery notes for the table¶
- The turn is the lowercase/uppercase distinction — Vance slows down for "Lowercase." and makes sure the press can hear the capital letter the second time. That's the headline, and he knows it.
- The anti-ARC jab is deliberately deniable — "you've heard their names, I don't need to repeat them." Everyone in the Belt will hear ARC. Conte will hear ARC. The record will show nothing.
- The direct address to Unity ("the door is open") is the savvy centerpiece: the Consortium positions itself as first corporate friend of the movement before ARC or the UEF can move — and Vance means it, which is what makes it dangerous-good.
- Optional, if Grey wants to nod to Azure's interview specifically: after "brave people who chose honesty when silence would have been safer," add "— most recently, this very day —".
- If a reporter asks whether Vance is a Talent himself (shaded Performance!): he smiles and says, "I'm a salesman, friend. My only gift is knowing a good thing when I see it." — true, false, and unverifiable all at once.
